Old town of Nice  Nice resort

Located along the Mediterranean coast, in the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur area, at about 30 Kms from Italy, Nice is famous for its old city which has been developped at the foot of the Hill of the Castle (entirely militarized before being destroyed by Louis XIV), its Chagall and Matisse museums, its "Cours Saleya" which shelters markets and restaurants, its carnival, and of course the "Promenade des Anglais" which extends from the "Théâtre de Verdure" to the Airport on severals kilometers.

The city was a leading resort on the French Riviera in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was particularly popular with the British upper class. Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill were regular visitors. Initially a winter resort, valued for its mild winter climate, it became much more popular as a summer resort.
